New College Durham 2 Darlington College 6
Darlington College, with Anthony Verity in charge, had a great away win at New College Durham!.
The day started on a low for Darlington as they only had eleven men, two of whom being goalkeepers.
The game had a scrappy beginning with neither of the sides managing to take control of the game. This changed after 15 minutes when new College scored from a corner.
Although this could have lowered the heads of the Darlington players, it seemed to give them a much-needed lift, and they started playing the ball around with ease and within no time were rewarded with an equaliser by Harry Gill.
From this point Darlo managed to gain full control of the game with long spells of possession in the opposition half when eventually Brad Claughton took the ball down from an opposition goal kick and managed to slip a ball through to Arran Mudd who took the ball wide of the goal before firing towards the back post and into the back of the net!
The second half started much like the first and in no tine New College grabbed an equaliser for 2-2.
Again, this didn’t stop Darlo’s momentum in the game, when a ball was played over the opposition defence to Luke Jenkinson. He took the ball in his stride , but the keeper was in no-man’s land and came flying in with a high tackle on the striker, resulting in a penalty. Luke stepped up to take the penalty and slotted it home with ease, sending the keeper the wrong way.
After Darlo took the lead for the second time in the match, they didn’t look back with a flurry of goals coming from Harry Gill, Luke Jenkinson and finally Blake Airey who ran down the wing and struck his shot underneath the keeper and into the far corner of the net with practically the last kick of the game.
