Match Report: Darlington College Men’s 1 – 5 Vs Northumberland College Berwick Rangers FC – 0
Darlington College maintained their 100% record for this season on Wednesday with a resounding 5-0 win over Northumberland College Berwick Rangers. The win saw them maintain their 6-point lead at the top of the table and all but assures them the title.
Darlington started the game the stronger of the two teams scoring twice in the first 25 minutes with goals from Brad Kilpatrick and Jonty Gray. Dale Milburn added another goal shortly after to see Darlington comfortably 3-0 up at half time.
The early stages of the second half were much more even with Berwick asserting themselves on the game more. However, Darlington were soon back amongst the goals with a fine cross from the left-hand side and after the ball was poorly cleared, Matthew Wharton volleyed home to confirm the win for Darlington. Charlie Wiggan added a 5th with a fine header in the final minutes to complete the rout.
The win takes Andrew Jinks’ team one step closer to the league title needing only 1 point from their two remaining games to ensure being crowned champions. Speaking after the game Andrew said, “Fantastic result today, I have to say that the lads have improved so much as individuals and as a squad, it’s been an absolute joy to work with such a hard-working and dedicated group of lads.”
